My new neighborhood has Art Walks every 3rd Saturday. This month it's the 17th of January. Come. Its fun. There is djs, art galleries, free food, a bar, cultured chicks/cultured mens (for the unattached), all spread over 2 blocks.
I know some galleries are boring, ugly or stuffy. Just make fun of those ones. There is a large variety to mock, gawk at or enjoy. You might even find a nice piece for your house. When I say 'variety', that means a vintage furnature gallery, a modern gadgety furnature gallery, and all kinds of paintings from abstract to well rendered to kid-ish, to photography.
I'll probably be showing mine and you can hang out in the exclusive VIP lounge (my house).
SO anyways. Come over if you can. Bring people if you want and be art critics.
When: Sat: Jan 17th 7 pm to 11 pm
Where: 731 Poinsettia St, Santa Ana
How Much: Free
The pics are of my first and second shows in other peoples galleries at the Santiago Street Lofts.

Aunty Toni, Cuz'n Wendi, and I (Mom) are gonna try to make it to the show. If I remember, I'll ask Virginia to go.

ReplyDeleteAnyone who missed the opening sure missed something special! Davey and Carrie did a great job setting up the gallery (even in the middle of his big move). They set out a table with drinks and jello in the theme of the red/blue 3d glasses that Davey set out. Uncle Ken brought champagne and broke out the poke. (If you don't know what that is, you won't like it, but Ken woke up at 3 a.m. to get it fresh from the docks -- if that's a clue.)
ReplyDeleteThere were lots of guests. Carrie's mom and friends of Carrie attended and seemed to have a good time. Uncle Dave (who will never understand the mind of an artist) puffed his chest and shared stories of his artist son growing up. Aunty Brenda, Jennifer, and Joseph enjoyed the evening. Aunty Debbie, Bolo (fresh out of the U.S.A.F.), Deandra, Uncle Ken and Dottie had fun. (Some had too much fun!) Everyone stopped by just to be supportive but everyone closed out the evening because no one wanted to leave.
There was a continual flow of attendees with hardly any down time. Everyone went for the glasses so they could see the 3d painting. There was some good exposure, support, and encouragement.
Everyone got a home tour of the top two floors of Davey's loft which was nicknamed "Bad-(something-or-other)" for the evening.
We viewed the galleries of other very nice and talented neighbors. Two doors down is a man who made IMAX movies, but he had lights and paintings in his gallery. One guy took great photos of ruins in Cambodia and Thailand. I think another neighbor is a photographer for National Geographic Magazine (or he should be). One lady made belts and jewelry out of melted glass. One man made textured textiles. Another designed and hand-made giant pachinko machines. Another made art deco furniture. There were several oil galleries, one Greek realist painter who is known for his homemade Baklava. If you didn't go, you won't know about the ice sculpture and raw cabbage gallery. The rest of us are sworn to secrecy so we won't tell. Mostly because we don't even know what it all means.
Of course, no one is partial, but Davey's black and whites, as well as his 3-d stand alone! The evening was successful with a good time had by all! We hope to see the rest of you (and bring friends) at another time.
